How reported history of traumatic brain injury correlates with various aspects Lead Investigator: Hsueh-Sheng Chiang Institution : University of Texas at Dallas E-Mail : hschiang@utdallas.edu Proposal ID : 628 Proposal Description: 1) We examine whether reported history of traumatic brain injury (TBI) can affect disease onset and severity in autopsy-confirmed Alzheimer's Disease. We expect that TBI can not only shorten the onset of dementia but also increase the severity of AD-related symptomatology and pathology. 2) The majority of the literature has been based on clinical diagnosis of AD but not proven by autopsy. We examine autopsy-confirmed AD to offer more definite evidence of how TBI may affect AD. The impact of TBI on the clinical course and severity of AD can thus be more clearly characterized.
